You have just had a root canal. We have made every effort possible to make sure that you were comfortable throughout the entire procedure.
I have listed below some post operative symptoms that you may experience:
- For the next 5-10 days, you may experience slight discomfort to biting…after 5 days, you should notice that this will gradually start to improve.
- Soreness in joint, due to having mouth open for prolonged period.
- Discomfort at injection site.
- Soreness in tissue around tooth, from pressure of the rubber dam clamp.
- You have been given a long acting anesthetic. Expect to remain “numb” for 4-10 hours.
- The tooth has been shortened or taken out of your bite intentionally; this may feel strange to your tongue.
For the rest of the day…restrict your diet to soft foods, especially if you are still “numb”.
If you have been given an antibiotic, please remember to take the entire prescription.
You were instructed to take Aleve or Ibuprofen for 3 days prior to the root canal appointment…You should also do this for 3 days following treatment. This is important even if you do not have any discomfort.
You will be scheduled in 10 days for the final restoration or crown prep. Please be sure to let us know if you are having any symptoms at that time.
