As a very experienced Invisalign dentist, Dr. Saylor is the right person to answer all your questions when it comes to Invisalign
For patients who are looking to straighten their teeth but are not a fan of metal braces, Invisalign is the preferred choice for orthodontic treatment.
At Dr. Saylor’s practice, we are asked many questions when it comes to this advanced and innovative treatment. As such, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions to help you learn more about the treatment before visiting us for your consultation.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is the transparent alternative to metal braces. Through a series of clear, custom-made aligners that are virtually invisible, Invisalign gradually straightens your teeth.
How does Invisalign work?
The course of treatment involves changing aligners approximately every two weeks, moving your teeth into straighter position step by step, until you have a more beautiful smile. And unlike braces, these clear aligners can be removed while you eat and brush your teeth, following a normal routine. Never will you have to worry about food getting stuck or lodged as you would if you were to opt for braces.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
- Clear aligners are practically invisible, so there’s no unwarranted attention to your mouth. In fact, very few people will notice at all – unless you tell them.
- Aligners are smooth and comfortable
- Aligners are removable, allowing you to remove them easily for important functions, when eating, brushing and flossing your teeth.
- No dietary restriction as you can remove them before meals
How long is the Invisalign treatment?
On average, the Invisalign treatment takes about a year. You will see Dr. Saylor every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments and to check progress. At regular intervals, you will receive a new set of custom-molded clear aligners to continue the straightening process. The total number of clear aligners is specific to you, determined by Dr. Saylor during the course of your treatment.
Am I a suitable candidate for Invisalign?
Teens and adults who have who have healthy teeth and gums but slightly crooked or misaligned teeth are the best candidates for Invisalign. Given the flexible and convenient nature of Invisalign and the ability to remove them at will, it is important for patients to be committed to wearing their aligners when required to receive optimal results. Since there is a certain degree of responsibility and commitment to the Invisalign treatment it is not suited for everyone’s lifestyle. For this reason, Invisalign is a more popular solution for adults. During your consultation, Dr. Saylor will perform a full mouth assessment to determine if your teeth are suited for the Invisalign treatment.
Patients seek cosmetic dentistry for a number of reasons. For some, it’s because of imperfections, chips and cracks; other patients want to replace a missing tooth and help maintain their remaining teeth in the process.
At Dr. Saylor’s practice, we think that the best cosmetic dentistry provides the patient with a healthy, natural-looking smile. Dr. Saylor is one of the most favored dentists in the area – not just in general, but specifically when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. We offer a range of cosmetic dental procedures to get your smile looking its very best.
Do you suffer from gaps in your smile?
It is normal to feel self-conscious about gaps in your smile. The only options for treatment used to be bridges and removable dentures. Thanks to advancements in modern dentistry, you can now replace your missing tooth with a fixed dental implant. Fortunately, this is a long-lasting solution to restore your smile.
What is a dental implant?
Using biocompatible materials, an implant replaces the complete tooth – including its root – and makes it fit seamlessly into your smile when it comes to the colour, feel and function of it. No matter your situation, dental implants are usually the most beneficial solution as they provide a permanent, endurable and comfortable tooth replacement.
If you have lost a tooth, it is vital you have it replaced to restore your oral health. Missing teeth not only affect your look but also your jaw and your remaining teeth. One of the functional problems of tooth loss is that the jawbone surrounding the missing tooth will start to deteriorate due to the loss of stimulation. This can lead to further tooth loss down the road as well as a sunken and hollowed facial appearance. Other concerns include:
- Your bite can become unbalanced
- Reduced chewing and speech ability
- Further gaps due to displacement of surrounding teeth
Replacing a tooth provides support for your jaw and remaining teeth. At the moment, there is no dental treatment as effective as a dental implant when it comes to replacing missing teeth.
Restorative dentistry goes hand-in-hand with cosmetic dentistry
If you still have all your teeth but one or several are chipped or cracked, you don’t need to replace the entire tooth. Dr. Saylor and his team know that your oral health will benefit from keeping your own, natural teeth for as long as possible. Depending on the severity of the damage, we have different treatment options.
Dental Veneers and Crowns
If the chip or crack is purely cosmetic then you may only need one or two porcelain veneers. These thin shells of porcelain are bonded to the damaged tooth to give the appearance of healthy-looking teeth.
If the damage is functional, you may require a dental crown. A dental crown is usually a porcelain-on-metal cap which is placed onto a damaged tooth. The metal means the crown is strong enough to withstand the pressure exerted by your bite and the porcelain makes the restoration look like a natural tooth.
Dental crowns can last between 10 to 15 years if looked after properly.
Even when your smile is looking flawless, it is still important to visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning. Once you have had any cosmetic or restorative work done, it is necessary to check on the health of your restoration.
We understand that your overall general health is connected to your oral health. Cosmetic dentistry is about more than white, sparkly teeth and we will always tailor our treatments to your specific needs so that the end result blends in beautifully with your face and appearance.

Wireless Digital Doc intraoral camera
To help with your general check-up, the aid of the wireless Digital Doc intraoral camera is enlisted, magnifying what Dr. Saylor is looking at on the monitor. Problems such as cavities or a fractured tooth are made easier to diagnose. The patient is also provided with a visual so they can follow along with Dr. Saylor’s comments. This improves overall communication between Dr. Saylor and his patients.
Dexis digital radiographs
Dexis plays a huge role in providing a prompt, accurate diagnosis regarding any dental concerns you may have. In recent studies, Dexis provided much clearer x-ray images than its competitors, even at a lower exposure setting or when radiograph conditions are not ideal.
This benefits both the patient and the dentist as it reduces the number of time consuming exposure-related retakes and radiation exposure is also reduced. Clearer images also assist the dentist with conveying any issues that may by visible while giving the patient a visual to follow along with. This helps to encourage fluent communication between patient and practitioner.
Why should I get x-rays?
If you’re a new patient Dr. Saylor may recommend x-rays to determine the present status of your oral health. This will give him a baseline to help identify any changes that may occur later. How often they should be updated will depend on your present oral health, age, risk of disease, and any signs or symptoms of oral disease.
Children may require x-rays more often than adults due to their teeth and jaws still developing, and teeth being more susceptible to tooth decay than an adult’s. X-rays may also be used to expose hidden dental structures like wisdom teeth, abscesses, cysts, and identifying bone changes linked to some diseases.
Not every patient will require x-rays. If a previous dentist has x-rays, Dr. Saylor may ask for copies of them. Dr. Larry Saylor will review your history and your current oral health to determine if you need x-rays.

Porcelain veneers are very thin, durable shells of porcelain that are expertly crafted to mimic the natural shape and shade of your desired teeth. Each shell is custom made to bond seamlessly to each individual tooth.
Because the treatment is designed to last years, Dr. Saylor is especially gifted in ensuring your porcelain veneers are exactly the way you like them. He will take care to retain as much of the natural structure of your teeth as possible so your results will blend in flawlessly with your new smile.
Unlike porcelain veneers, DURAthin veneers do not require loss of tooth structure.
“DURAthin veneers are a sophisticated product that produce a highly aesthetic look, enhancing the smile and improving patient confidence with minimal or no prep. For patients, this means that we can transform their smile without drilling their natural teeth, thus eliminating a big fear that many people have with porcelain veneers.”
– Dr. Larry Saylor
Lumineers are similar to the cosmetic dentistry treatment DURAthin veneers. The main difference is that they are designed using different materials. Lumineers and DURAthin veneers are both considered the less permanent alternative to veneers due to their thin design. For some, this is preferable because the idea of losing some of the natural tooth structure can be daunting at times.
Same Day Crowns
Thanks to access to state-of-the-art technology and years of dentistry experience, if you have a chipped, cracked or broken tooth and are in need of a crown, Dr. Saylor can assess, fabricate and place a strong crown in a single day. This is possible with E4D CAD/CAM technology which is especially intended to scan, design and fabricate a seamless restoration for your tooth.
If you are looking for a way to straighten your teeth discreetly, Invisalign could be the perfect treatment for you. This revolutionary orthodontic treatment has no brackets or wires and is barely even noticeable.
Six Month Smiles
Six Month Smiles™ is a rapid orthodontic treatment that has the ability to straighten teeth in as little as 6 months. The treatment uses clear braces so they are less noticeable compared to traditional braces. The primary focus of the treatment is to move the teeth that are most visible when you smile which is why it is largely considered a cosmetic dentistry treatment.
We offer a range of teeth whitening cosmetic dentistry treatments including KoR Whitening and Zoom Teeth Whitening, with both in-office and take-home treatments to choose from.

Having a smile that looks dull, discolored, damaged or a little out of shape can be disheartening for some. Veneers provide a cosmetic solution that has the ability to revolve a number of different aesthetic concerns.
What are veneers?
A veneer is a thin shell that mimics the look and shape of a tooth. They are custom designed to perfectly fit the shape and appearance that you desire for your smile. Veneers are a beautiful solution for people wanting to transform the look of their smile by concealing gaps, crooked teeth, chipped teeth, discolored teeth or misaligned teeth.
Dr. Saylor offers a few different options for patients who are interested in undergoing a cosmetic veneer treatment depending on their individual cosmetic concerns.
When treating patients with porcelain veneers, Dr. Larry Saylor uses a less invasive approach. The treatment will be carried out with the following method:
Dr. Saylor will prepare your teeth and take impressions of your smile. He will then create temporary veneers from your impressions. This will help you get used to the idea of veneers and determine if you feel any discomfort or experience any speech problems. Any concerning issues will be addressed for your final veneers so that they will fit perfectly and look flawless.
What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?
Here are some of the benefits of porcelain veneers:
• Repair/conceal imperfections; chips, worn teeth, gaps, misshaped teeth
• Conceal teeth that have been damaged from trauma
• Great alternative to teeth whitening
• Can be shaped to suit your needs
• Fabricated from strong materials
• Designed to last years
• Stain resistant
Lumineers are a thinner version of porcelain veneers that require no tooth preparation for the treatment. As the less permanent alternative, Lumineers are almost as thin as contact lenses. They are placed directly over the teeth to produce beautiful results and can be removed down the track without damaging the natural teeth.
What are the benefits of Lumineers?
Here are some of the benefits of Lumineers:
• Repair minor imperfections; small chips and worn teeth
• Conceal teeth that have been damaged from trauma
• Can conceal stained or discolored teeth
• Can be placed in a single appointment
• Require no tooth preparation
Similar to Lumineers, DURAthin veneers do not require the removal of existing tooth structure. The main differences between the two treatments are that they use slightly different materials for the cosmetic restoration and they can be designed by the dentist.
The benefits of DURAthin are the same/similar to Lumineers.
