What is a crown?
A crown is a dental restoration that replaces the entire part of a tooth, typically above the gum line. Dental crowns are created from different materials and bonded or cemented onto an existing tooth or dental implant to uniquely match your aesthetic and functional needs.
What are veneers?
A veneer is an extremely durable wafer-thin shell of material that can be placed on a tooth to modify its color or appearance.Veneers require minimal tooth preparation, when compared to other cosmetic dental procedures, and can produce outstanding results
Will my teeth look fake if I get veneers or crowns?
At Dr. Saylor's cosmetic dentistry office in Brandon, we exclusively use porcelain and ceramic materials for all of our tooth reconstruction procedures. Because porcelain is non-porous, our veneers are extremely durable, and won't stain. Each dental restoration is custom crafted and expertly bonded to your tooth to create a beautifully natural smile, rather than a perfect or perfectly fake-smile. We make sure you approve of your new smile beforehand by taking time to get your temporaries (prototypes) right before going forward with the final porcelain veneers. We take care in using the most natural looking dental materials available, such as Empress, Cercon and Feldspathic porcelains. These materials have a depth of color and natural tooth-like appearance.

What about Lumineers or DURAthin Veneers?
These restorations are different from veneers in that they can be placed directly over an existing tooth without any modification to the tooth itself. They have the advantage of being as thin as a contact lens, and can be removed later, if desired-without damaging the tooth.
Both porcelain DURAthin veneers and Lumineers can:
- Repair minor tooth imperfections-small chips, worn teeth, etc...
- Conceal stained or discolored fillings and poor cosmetic-bonding jobs
- Cover discolored teeth damaged by physical trauma or teeth darkened by a root canal

Beware of Dentists who Discount Veneers
Quality veneer dental work takes time, and more importantly, experience and skill on the part of the dentist. There are always those dental clinics that will try to compete on price, but be very cautious when interviewing potential providers. Here are some potential downfalls of selecting a cosmetic dentist on price alone:
- Bulky (horse-like) teeth
- Artificial looking results
- Lack of time spent on teeth by Dentist
- Too white-Non-translucent
- Uncomfortable results
- Difficulty speaking afterwards
- Bite and chewing problems
At our office, the average veneer case takes around 3 weeks to complete. That is because we know that in order to achieve the most naturally beautiful smile possible, modifications in the mold prototype are usually required. Dr. Saylor will create a temporary aesthetic created from your tooth impression that you will use for the first week or so in order to check for any discomfort, speech issues, etc... that may occur. Any problems will be corrected and tested before the final impression is sent to the lab, ensuring that your final product fits and looks as natural as you'd expect.
